YouTube has launched a new channel devoted to American politics: YouTube Politics. The site is a move to make the political landscape more accessible to the American public. With the new channel, users can keep up to date with the latest political stories as well as the 2012 Presidential election race; convenient tabs located at the top of the page help users navigate between “Hot Political Videos” and “2012 Candidates.”
In a blog post announcing the new site, Ramya Raghavan, YouTube News and Politics Manager, shares that YouTube Politics "will feature the latest campaign ads, parodies, gotchas, and speeches, offering you a 360-view of the election…The channel will also let you take a deep dive into each candidate’s YouTube stats, so you can see which one has the most video views, subscribers and shares, as well as how they stack up against each other. And from each candidate’s dashboard, you can subscribe to their YouTube channel to receive regular updates and videos from the campaign trail."
The new channel allows for increased interaction between the political and public spheres and is anticipated to play a key role in the upcoming election.
