What is it to be American? Is there such a thing? Since this country was founded, there has been a fascination with what it means to be American. From Alexis De Tocqueville and Frederick Turner to more recent incarnations like Seymor Martin Lipset, countless authors and thinkers have been consumed by the desire to know what it means to be American.
Though views diverge, there seems to be a bit of a consensus on what it is to be American. It is not a racial or religious standard, but a commitment to American ideals. This film, or rather, this series of eight short films explores what it means to live in America and be an American through philosophy. It may not give you the answers, but it will sure start some important questions.
