As part of its dedication to increasing government transparency, the City of Chicago maintains an open data portal in which over 200 datasets are provided to give information to residents about City departments, services, facilities, and performance. For example, visitors can view the salaries of current city employees, the locations and contact information for police stations, progress report cards for Chicago Public Schools, an overview of crimes in Chicago from 2001 to the present, a list of neighborhood health clinics, and hundreds of others. The City will continue to add datasets to the portal and is inviting residents to participate by making suggestions for a dataset or by sharing ways in which they use the data.
