Consumers in the state of Illinois now have another resource that can help them make more informed medical decisions.
According to the Chicago Tribune, patients are now able to access the online profiles of doctors and chiropractors in the state of Illinois through a public database in order to “check up” on physicians and see whether they have been disciplined here or in another state.
The Physician Profile is located on the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation’s website. Along with information regarding malpractice and legal actions for the specified physician, the database also provides information on practice (locations and affiliations, languages, etc), accepted insurance, and education, and shows board certification and the number of years in practice.
According to Gov. Pat Quinn, "Selecting a physician is one of the most important decisions a family makes, and we want people to have the information they need to make the best choice. This website is an important tool to empower Illinois consumers by giving them online, easy-to-use access to information about our state's doctors" (as quoted in the Tribune).
